Feroda campaign: events so far

Email summary, 4 Oct 1998: Arrival at Corflu

The evening and night passed uneventfully for the three adventurers and the new day dawned with cloudy skies and a strong hint of rain. They knew that their progress now would be much better as they had passed the point where they were working against the current late the day before and now had the current helping them along. After breaking camp they continued upstream. A short while later they came to a place where the river forked with one branch going essentially west and the other going southwesterly. Joss remembered the spot well and steered them to the westerly branch.

At about mid-morning a large channel opened up before them. It ran in a north-east/southwest direction and was the main channel leading to Corflu. They began to see other craft on the water - Newtling reed boats for the most part. These others soon became more numerous as they approached Corflu. At last, around noon, they saw the settlement come into view. As before they brought their boat ashore at the dock in the Riverfolk settlement at the north end of Corflu. Several of the fishers around the wharf are familiar to the group from the previous visit to Corflu. Joss jumps to the wharf and secures the vessel. Meanwhile Varjeela and Nijehl join him.

One of the elder fishers comes over and, in boatspeech, says "Nadum. Nadum. Nadum." (once to each of the three adventurers). Then he says, "Yur tinu emess lams? I emak yap tath enon tema aen dabba shinnif morf ya nageb?" With this the grizzled fellow grimaces exposing a mouth with very few teeth.

"Naw," replies Joss in kind. "Oll 'r doog - juss puttan et camp!"

The old fisher brightens at hearing this (although much of his body language appears to be an act).

Varjeela, reading this, wished her attempts to learn Boatspeech on the journey had been more successful.
