Dave Black> Since the only participants this week seem to be
in the "Going back to Corflu Group" let's do that part of things...
Varjeela> Right... as I recall from the log, I, Nijelh, and
Joss were heading back to Corflu, to find some trade goods and perhaps
an interpreter.
Dave Black> OK. It was midday (or slightly later) when the group
decided to split up. I understood that Varjeela, Nijehl, and Joss were
returning to Corflu and that Huff, Mawth, and NoBison were remaining.
Varjeela> Joss coming along as chauffeur, as I recall. Though
his contacts with the boat-people may well be helpful.
Dave Black> Yes, Joss was to help with the boathandling part
of things primarily. Each of you are bringing all of your equipment or
just selected pieces?
Nijehl> And we are going to corflu to get items to trade with
the ducks. I get all my stuff, which is not much.
Varjeela> May as well bring the lot. (Dave, thing you may wish
to look up. How long would it take me to get my Market spell back?)
Dave Black> Hmmm. Just re-read Create Market and Warding. Don't
really have an answer for you off the bat based on those descriptions.
Mind you it does say its re-useable.
Nijehl>Are they re-usable spells? If yes, there should be something
in the rules...want me to get them and see?
Varjeela> OK, then we'll assume it takes too long. The Divine
Magic section doesn't seem to say how long it takes to renew a reusable
spell. I know it needs renewing, but not how long the prayer takes. And
my rules are buried at present: we're decorating :(
Nijehl> (Just to let you know... I used to make the Issaries
priest I have in my campaign pray and do service at a temple for a day
to recover 1 point of divine spells)
Dave Black> That could mean that it doesn't need to be renewed
at all then. It is a Ceremony spell...
Varjeela> The same length of time as it takes to get the spell
in the first place? And it's Ceremony, but it's also Divine... Shall we
say "too long" and leave it for now, then?
Dave Black> I know you wanted to be able to use it if necessary
though so lets say this: Varjeela thinks there might be a chance that Issaries
would grant her spell if she paid proper homage to her deity. Bear in mind
that you are quite some distance from Corflu and may not reach it before
the next day some time as well.
Varjeela> Oh, right. In that case I'll make sure I drop in to
the Issaries shrine: I want to at least say "thanks" to Issaries for how
well it worked last time! So off we go, complete with all kit. Paddle,
paddle..... is Joss letting us help, or are we under orders to sit very
still?
Dave Black> The sky overhead is bright blue (for a change).
It'll be a warm day by local standards at this time of year. As you all
travel upstream you will even notice a few bugs have started crawling out
of their hibernations. The group needs to go in a northwesterly direction.
Varjeela> I remember Huff saying the place was safe as long
as it stayed cold. We'd better get on with this....NW it is, then.
Nijehl> Will we be able to reach Corflu before night?
Dave Black> During the afternoon you see quite a number of different
creatures. In the waters are otters. In the air are all manner of birds.
Fish abound. Insects of course too.
Varjeela> And sling practise from a moving boat is a bad idea,
of course.
Nijehl> And perhaps some fishing....
Varjeela> I wonder: would trailing a line from the boat achieve
anything, as fishing goes?
Dave Black> Chirpings and other animal noises fill the air.
A slight breeze is blowing from the south. The faint smell of salt is carried
on the wind. As time passes you all realize that you will not be able to
reach Corflu that day.
Varjeela> Such is life. Get as far as we can, and camp up. Somewhere
solid and safe.
Nijehl> Shall we prepare camp then?
Dave Black> Joss guides the craft to the bank and disembarks.
The location is typical of most areas of the delta. Flat land covered in
tall marsh grasses (which, due to the time of year, are brown and brittle).
Nijehl> Great, I move quickly to prepare fire and get something
to eat.
Dave Black> Joss decides to try his luck fishing
Varjeela> Sounds good. Does it look like rain, and would a grass
shelter provide any more shelter than our tents? (If it does, and it would,
then I make one. Otherwise, put up tents.)
Nijehl> After setting up a small fire, I go and help Joss fishing.
Dave Black> Based on what you've seen of the delta's weather
so far the following thought crosses your mind: 'Clear skies are probably
a rarity here.'
Varjeela> One watch each, tonight. I have no preference as to
order.
Nijehl> I will do first then...
Dave Black> OK so Varjeela creates a lean-to type dwelling out
of the stalks of marsh grass as before.
Varjeela> So far the weather has been a choice of rain, rain,
heavy rain, or snow.
Dave Black> Sounds like Newfoundland!
Varjeela> Joss has worked hardest today: his choice as to when
he wants to sleep.
